Your child's data,
in plain English
You're trusting us with photos of your child's schoolwork. That deserves better than a 9,000-word legal document.
Here's exactly what happens to your child's information — in the order it happens.
What happens when you photograph homework
You snap a photo
Of the worksheet, the marked test, the homework — handwriting and all.
We cover the personal details we find
Our AI providers are shown a copy of your photo, turned upright and with its location data removed, but not yet covered: they have to see the page to find the names on it. They look for names and other personal details on the page. We cover the ones they find, such as your child's name, a teacher's name, a signature or a school stamp, with a solid block before the page is stored. The page we store has the photo's location and other metadata removed. Our photo privacy step (it covers names and details with a solid block) does not catch everything yet. A name outside the questions, such as in the page header, is often missed, a missed name also stays in the text we extract, and the same page can be partly covered one time and not covered at all the next. PDFs are stored as you send them and are not covered. We're working on improving this.
The learning content powers the quizzes and games
The questions, the answers and the mistakes are what power quizzes and games.
You can see how they are doing
Guardian's Gate shows you your child's recent quiz and game activity, how much they have done, and the concepts they are working on. It does not list the photos and documents they upload or the study aids they make.
What we never do
We never sell your child's data.
And we do not share it with advertisers. The AI providers that process uploads are described above and in the privacy policy.
We never show ads to children.
There is no ad inventory anywhere in the product.
We never let a child chat with an anything-goes AI.
Generation runs through education-tuned guardrails.
We never store your card details.
Payments run through Stripe; we never see your card number.
Parent-managed by design
Children don't sign themselves up. A parent or guardian creates the family account, gives consent (COPPA-compliant), and adds each child. You control the account, and you can request permanent deletion of your family's data at any time.
The honest fine print
AI isn't perfect. Generated questions are education-tuned and quality-checked, but an occasional imperfect question slips through. Report anything odd — a human reads every report.
Uploaded originals. For a photo, we normally delete your original, which still carries its location, once the covered copy is saved. If a page cannot be made safe to store, we keep your original for as long as that page is in your Vault. Once the item is deleted from your Vault, a later clean-up may remove it, and deleting your account removes it. A PDF is kept as you uploaded it, in private storage that is never publicly accessible, and is not covered: if a PDF shows your child's name, the name stays on the page. Deleting an item from your Vault does not itself remove its PDF or the original of a page that could not be made safe to store; deleting your account does. We keep logs of AI requests. Each request is logged with up to 4,000 characters of what we sent and up to 4,000 characters of what came back, and one page can make several requests, so for a Vault page the logs can hold the page's text, including any name we missed. Our staff can read these logs to fix problems. Deleting a Vault item does not remove them, but deleting your account erases that text from them.
